We belong to the Tempe South Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Our Stake has broken down emergency preparedness planning for us into monthly themes so we can tackle a few items a month and not feel overwhelmed. This a great idea and I will be posting flyers from our Stake each month here for you to review!
Here are the topics we will be focusing on this in 2011 starting in February:
|
February: Family Plan |
March: Grab and Go Kits |
April: Water Storage |
|
May: Shelter |
June: Lighting/Power Outage |
July: Gardening |
|
August: Document Security |
September: Fuel / Alternative Power Sources |
October: First Aid |
|
November: Communication |
December: Clothing |
January: Sanitation |
If natural (or man made) disaster strikes and you need to evacuate (with your trust Grab 'N' Go packs, right?), you might need to create some sort of shelter where you end up. Additionally, the safest place might be your home, but you can always fortify it for better shelter.

Got Water? In our desert you'll need LOTS of it if you are to survive when acute trouble hits. The following documents will help families to ascertain how much water they need to store, how to store it, how to keep it fresh and clean, and other ways to treat dirty water in emergency situations.

The focus this month is developing your Family Plan. During this month, families are asked to sit down with your families and fill out some questionnaires on what emergencies you want to plan for in your family.
