SPAM is computer-slang for unsolicited (mostly
commercial) e-mail. Or in other words, junk e-mail.
Stupid, wastes of resources such as advertisements for solar powered flash
lights, laser-guided bayonets and the like.
If you run a business which uses "robots" to surf the
USENET newgroups
and Web sites across the globe looking for hapless mailto URLs
in order to send your silly advertisements to, then you are a generator
of SPAM and therefore should be smitten.
